Love in the heart

I feel love
In my hands when they wriggle to
Hold another hand
They ache to tell me
they understand
the dark raw dose
I am reeling under

I feel love
When my eyes meet
Eyes unknown
The spark, the blink
The pucker of the brow
That confirms after the party’s over
I won’t be alone

I feel love
All over
And way within
On those times
When nothing matters
No, not the person or
the places he has been

But I don’t feel love in the heart
Good God, why not
This heart of mine, what a freak
Beats to pump blood but that’s it
Doesn’t jump into the mouth,
Not any more
Doesn’t shrink to half its size
 In a long wait
Doesn’t talk sweet to me
In front of a mirror
Doesn’t soak happiness
And gets bigger

I don’t feel love in the heart
It’s been so long
I don’t feel love in the heart
It doesn’t even feel wrong

No apologies

Tomorrow, if you wake up to the earth thundering below your feet
and the walls are tearing their chests, throwing open the veins of concrete

Tomorrow, if you wake up as an island, surrounded by untamed waves
that are ready to swallow your past and your dreams, everything you could have been

Tomorrow, if you wake up with a gunpoint, stuffed between you and your yawn
your voice, your rights, your hatred and love, even your mom and dad are gone

Tomorrow, if a long drive is cut short or the office never reached
Tomorrow, if I hate you is the only goodbye you'd ever get to say

Tomorrow if a dead end is the only way out and you join the queue
Would it still matter what you think of the world or the world thought of you?

Dark and wrong

It’s dark
And this is wrong
Rings in the head
So wrong
That he wants it so bad
Just to stretch his hand and touch the one
That’s small, soft like a clever child’s
 God why
Why is she here
With the black flames of her hair
Swallowing her face
Why doesn’t she move closer or away
To escape this sin or seal its fate
Shoot those embers,
Look at me or may be not
He prays, battering his eyes
That see less and smell more
Let go off my hand, may be I’d go too
That’s all the control I got
His thoughts turn into sparks
And burn his palms
Aching to rain
The first shower, building up
Waiting for a sign to pour
Cover that meadow of silk
Or let me roam
He breathes hard
It’s the only thing he can do
When all the blood in his body
Is gushing to play
There is sweat soaking his bones
And love throbbing for more
He looks away
Then closes his eyes
Weary, at last.
I will lay here and wait
For the beautiful night to pass

Cipher

Not a letter that smelled of roses
Or a shirt soaked in sweat
Ashes in a B&H cigarette pack, no
Surprise passes for a rock show
Or a promise of a Friday sleepover
Not a half sketched devious doe
Not the password to the mails
Not even the one that unlocks the phone
Not a picture framing togetherness
Or a body to hold and mourn

Not a goodbye note that mentioned love
Nor some blanks to fill
He left behind nothing but
An unpaid credit card bill

New and Nervous

Like most beginnings, ours is exciting.

But it is scary too.

You look so fragile. So tender. So untouched.

Honestly, I didn’t even know what to do with you or how.

I am not saying I do now. But I like things slow. Me, I am the time-taking kinds.
I didn’t give in to your charm on the spur of the moment. I let it grow on me. I waited for it to consume me, irrevocably.

And I gave in just when the moment arrived.

You don’t know, I had forever been seeing you with others. It didn’t bother me. It made me long.
And it left me with a deep, deep, almost dark desire to hold you, clutch you close to my heart and then love you my way.

Don’t mistake it to be a promise. Promises reek of desperation. Just trust me. And be patient.

Patience pays, beautifully. Yes, this comes from experience, though I am not even half as seasoned as you are.

Chances are you won’t like me the first time. Not unheard of.

The second time too won’t be very different. Except, this time there will grow a familiarity between us, the kinds that’s comforting, and the kinds that makes difficulties a tiny wee bit agreeable, if not easy.

Today, in my arms, lying coy yet eager, you don’t appear even remotely dissatisfied. You look rather content and encouraging.

I get your message.

Next time, I will rock my soul out of my fingers, working on you.

I promise, no plectrum.

A moment not captured

You looked great
that tasteless afternoon
in your faded old cardigan
and ink stained trouser
that had ridden up your shins
crumpled just as the sheets we laid
Lazing as you stretched
you shone
and filled me with a tiny wish

A picture of you
I just wished to have
A picture of you
How I wished to steal that moment in time
When you were
breathing that stale air on my face, all mine

And you had turned your face away
To point
At a tiny glittery spot that hid
Where your cheeks slid to meet the chin
“Not today, not today
Not with this zit on my face
no way”
Thus shooed away that thought of
A picture of you
 I just wished to have
A picture of you
How I wished to steal that moment in time
When you were
Breaking my heart, being vain, all mine

But you were gone
Before that zit on your face
As did the afternoon
Never to return
And when it does,
It always mocks that wish of
A picture of you
I just wished to have
A picture of you
How I wished to steal that moment in time
But you are gone away from me
Quietly, like you were never mine
