Bucket list

Thank you, whoever thought of the bucket list,
And brought in a sense of ease
For all the things that passed us by
And all others that we hurriedly missed.

A peaceful breakfast without biting my tongue
Or swallowing a bite
Should I list the unread op-ed page,
Or a lazy date with myself, under a star-lit sky

An afternoon to dive into a long-neglected trunk
And emerge with pictures reeking of past years
Some that are bursting with laughter
Some that are wet with tears.

Meet an old friend without complaining
About the busy life, away from a noisy bar
Just hug him tight and really warm
And tell him that, for only him, I stopped and plucked a flower.

Go home with a heart all light and breezy
And nestle in ma’s lap, where my childhood still rests
Wake up early to ask dad for pocket money
And peep in a sparrow’s nest.

So, thank you, whoever thought of the bucket list,
And gave us the reason to miss
All that we could have done
But never did, all because there is a bucket list.
